During these guided tours, you will wander on routes emphasizing a specific theme or certain aspect that was important for a particular period of time in Brugge for which visible traces still remain today and can be recognized in the city landscape.

Thematic Tour 1 – Bruges and the French Literature
This tour gives you a picture of the French literature connections to Bruges between 1830 and 1950. You will wander by houses and hotels where various French authors have resided and the unique places where they found their artistic inspiration. A fascinating history full of lovers, characters and literary anecdotes.

Thematic Tour 2– The Plague in Bruges
This tour provides a visit to the places that remind us of the horrible plague that swept Europe. You will search for traces of the illness that deeply influenced the social aspects of the city. A walking tour that focuses on the unequalled fight the people of Bruges undertook against the plague. What was done to avoid the illness and how were plague stricken individuals treated? Which unique medicinal cures were prescribed in this time? It is an aspect of a fascinating but less known social impact the city underwent.

Thematic Tour 3– Stories and Legends
A walking tour based on traditional stories and legends in Bruges that relate to the buildings, paintings and various locations in the city. The grandiose romantic traditional stories or poetic works speak to us about historical occurrences from the heroic past. You will wander along places that show the signs of a revolutionary time and highlight the actors considered to be a part of what was considered a "New Era".

Thematic Tour 5 – Almshouses Walking Tour
A visit to residences hidden behind city walls or fenced off from plain view. These small enclaves are made up from a few small houses that were sponsored by rich members of guilds or other societies and were erected for and inhabited by poorer citizens. For the rich sponsors, this financial backing was considered a kind of insurance of holiness in the hereafter. This visit emphasizes an anecdotal history of social life in Bruges.

Thematic Tour 6 – Renaissance houses and their inhabitants
An exclusive route covering locations that during the Renaissance housed and were work locations of exceptional personages who had an enormous influence on the religious, cultural and economic life in the sixteenth century. Thematic Tour 8 – The "Guido Gezelle" walking tour
This tour takes you in the footsteps of one of the greatest Flemish Poets ever. From the cradle to the grave, the tour takes us along milestones of literary anecdotes to be sure we will not forget. In this tour, Gezelle himself walks along in spirit.

Thematic Tour 9 – "Side streets" walking tour 1 (woman’s walks)
During this walking tour, "She" (the woman) is no longer anonymous. From the shadows of the history of Brugge, women are highlighted and brought to the foreground. This tour focuses on women and groups of women during the period before the French Revolution.

Thematic Tour 10 – "Side streets" walking tour 2 (woman’s walks)
Just as the previous walking tour, "She" (the woman) is in the spotlights. The period after the French revolution to modern times is the focus and accents the life of the woman as individual in Bruges.

In this tour, you will discover in a surprising manner all the places where the exhilarating adventures, described in the thrillers of this successful author took place.

Thematic Tour 12 – The Five Senses ("Body" walk)
To what extent do our five senses take precedent during a walking tour? Taste, Touch, Hearing, Smelling and Seeing are so connected to our body and spirit that we use them daily without consciously thinking about them. In this walking tour you will be allowed to stop and be closer in touch with each of your five senses. You will wander by the herb gardens, shortly pause by the "gaper", you can already smell the aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans…

Thematic Tour 13 – Bruges Art Route 1: From the 'Bonifatius' bridge to the 'Bladelin' Courtyard
Modern Art in a historical city: utopia or a successful combination ? The organization Bruges Art Route has been able to arrange for sixty modern artists and fifty local merchants to work in tandem allowing this project to become a reality. The artists ? Are they grand masters such as Hans Memling or self made artists that will be forgotten in a hundred years from now ? Are they Flemish, or people with foreign roots that were inspired by the attraction of Bruges and its history ?
